The sixth issue of Dune investigates the work of an Italian key figure who exercised great influence on the national and international art scene of the post-punk era: Francesca Alinovi (1948-1983). Acting as the catalyst of an eventful period that marked the passage between the 1970s and 1980s and making endless journeys back and forth between Italy and the United States, Francesca Alinovi was able to recognize artistic developments when they were still at an embryonic stage, helping to frame them in a historical and critical perspective. Thanks to her charisma, she linked together places as distant as Bologna and New York, working on events, exhibitions and texts and cultivating transdisciplinarity through a dialogue with people active in the fields of the figurative art, design, fashion, music, performance, comics and theater. Thanks to the involvement of historians, critics and artists, this issue sets her critical approach in a historical perspective and, at the same time, examine it from the viewpoint of our own day by drawing a line that runs from the end of the seventies to the present.
Dune Vol. 003 n. 002 includes the proceedings of the symposium “Francesca Alinovi: militanza della critica d’arte e contaminazione dei linguaggi artistici” [Francesca Alinovi: Militancy of Art Criticism and the Contamination of Artistic Languages] – which took place on February 23, 2022 at MAXXI Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo in Rome – and integrates them with original written and visual contributions. The symposium was conceived and realized by Fondazione In Between Art Film, Dune’s partner in this issue.
